What does Honeyfloh mean?

Hey I’m Chris! I design and create the lamps behind Honeyfloh.

I started Honeyfloh in 2022 with excitement for the creative process: imagining a shape, figuring out how it could work, and iterating on it until it feels just right. At heart, I love creating and Honeyfloh is the product of bringing my ideas to life. I'm so happy to share my work with you and have you join me on this creative journey!

Honeyfloh originally started with the name Honeybee Design. The name came from the way I thought about honeybees: these tiny builders whose careful work leads to something sweet. I saw the honey as their art. There was something about that relationship between building and creating that felt inspiring, and it became a way of describing what I wanted to explore in my own work.

3D printing gave me a way to explore it. An idea could become a model on a screen, then something I could hold in my hands. There was plenty of trial and error in between, but I found that I enjoyed working through those details. I could get absorbed in a design and happily spend hours seeing where it might go.

That feeling became part of the name Honeyfloh. Honey carries the meaning it always had: the sweet thing that comes from making, the art. Floh is my take on “flow,” the state of being so caught up in creating that I lose track of time. It also nods to the printing process itself, as material flows and an idea takes shape, one layer at a time.

Eventually, all that experimenting led me to lamps. As I thought about the spaces I wanted to create for, I realized that light was filled with so much possibility. Light can change the way the we feel, the way we work and play and think. It defines so much of our everyday and I wanted to be a part of that.

On the outside, Honeyfloh is a small studio utilizing 3D printing to design and sustainably produce beautiful products. But for me, I'm simply giving shape to my ideas, trying new things, and enjoying the journey that is design. I'm excted to share that journey with you.

P.S. If you look really closely the logo is actually designed to be a side profile of a honeybee, with the head and abdomen (separated by a gap to represent a stripe) on the left, and the wing on the right. :)
